Business Plan for Wiper Aquaculture Project
OK, so we have your interest in a possible business venture involving striped bass hybrids! Well, let's not jump the gun and start building a dam with a shovel just yet. Take a look at this sample business plan. Arbitrary values were chosen just to give you an idea of how this works. You will have to do the leg work on your own to see what costs you may incur if you start a wiper farm in your locale. These values can be significantly different depending what region of the country you are in. Ground water is a key example. For some people, depending on where they live, water can be virtually free. For many of us though, water is scarce commodity that can be difficult to find or expensive to pump. There are resources in your community that can help you come up with reasonable figures on what water might cost you where you live. Please note that in the sample business plan it was assumed that there would be a 10 percent mortality of your livestock. This is by no means a certainty. Mortality can range from zero to 100 percent depending on your skill and also on your good fortune or lack of it (Just like any farming operation.) This business plan tool may give you a very rough idea of how to estimate your potential profit or loss. Anybody who has ever farmed knows that the best-laid plans can go awry, but "best laid plans" are better than no plans at all! Also please note that fixed costs involve depreciated figures. If your dam costs you $2,000 and you think you can get twenty years use out of it then your annual fixed cost is only 100 dollars annually. Remember, though, you must come up with a reasonable figure for what your interest will cost you on your capital outlay. Last, but most importantly, you must take responsibility for researching your market for your livestock. If you haven't developed interest in your product then your livestock has no value. Wipers are a very marketable commodity as a sport fish and as a food fish but they are not known for marketing themselves!
